Amelia Earhart in Interior of the Flying Laboratory

(Original Caption) California: Amelia And Her Flying Laboratory. The trim, low-wing transport plane purchased by the Amelia Earhart Fund for aeronautical research as a "flying laboratory" is a twin-engined Lockheed Electra. It is powered with two Pratt-Whitney wasp S3HI engines of 550 H. P., each driving Hamilton constant speed metal propellers. The plane will carry, instead of passenger seats, additional fuel tanks for extended nonstop flights by America's "First Lady of the Air." Miss Earhart and her husband George Palmer Putnam are in Los Angeles to watch completion of the plane, which will be delivered about July 1. The flier will sue Union Air Terminal, Burbank, California, as a base for the new plane. She is shown seated in it.
