(Original Caption) 3/5/1960-East Lansing, MI- Ernest Green, first Negro graduate of Little Rock's Central High School and now President of the NAACP chapter at Michigan State University, leads picketing of a dime store here, March 5, to protest segregation practices at lunch counters in dime stores located in southern states. Some 35 students picketed two SSS. Kresge stores and one Woolworth store. Pickets also marched in a shopping center in adjoining Lansing. Shortly after the demonstrations began, Fritz Gaogen, 23, a Michigan State University junior from Birmingham, MI, began picketing the pickets with a sign saying "Shameful conduct by the NAACP."
