Burma's Ngapali Beach

The U.S. government has been urged by two major Burmese opposition groups to maintain and stiffen its economic sanctions against the military junta until all political prisoners are released. U.S. secretary of State Hillary Clinton stated at a recent briefing that she remained very concerned about the current situation in Burma. According to the United Nations Development Program 2008 survey (UNDP), the Burmese government spends only 0.3% of its gross domestic product on health, the lowest amount worldwide. Many low-income people living in the poverty-stricken rural areas can't even afford to have a meal in a day. In Burma, the poorest are hardest hit since they can't afford to pay for healthcare.
