Press conference on archaeological find in Havelland

23 January 2026, Brandenburg, Potsdam: Franz Schopper, State Archaeologist and Director of the Brandenburg State Office for the Preservation of Monuments and Archaeological State Museum, pictured before the start of a press conference to present the wheel cross from the 10th century found by archaeologist Rangnow. The cross and the mold belonging to it will be on display at the Brandenburg an der Havel Archaeological State Museum until March 2026 and then at the Museum of Prehistory and Early History in Berlin. Found in 1982 during excavations on the Slavic castle rampart in Berlin-Spandau, the mould is considered to be one of the oldest pieces of evidence of early Christianization between the Elbe and Oder rivers.
