KYOTO, JAPAN - 2014/05/14: Genko-an garden plants and stones are arranged to create an elegant world of wabi and sabi. The temple is famous for two large windows. The Window of Enlightenment" is round, showing the harmony of the universe. The squared window is called "The Window of Confusion" symbolising humans lives of suffering. Both windows overlook the same garden, though the effect of looking through each window is quite different. Genko-an Temple was originally built as a hermitage for the head priest of Daitoku-ji Temple, but was in time turned into a temple of the Soto sect of Zen Buddhism.
