Hobnail boot belonging to George Leigh Mallory, George Mallory and Andrew Irvine famously disappeared en route to the summit of Mount Everest on 8th June 1924. Mallory's body was eventually discovered at 26,800 feet (75 years after his disappearance) on the 1st May 1999 during the 'Mallory and Irvine Research Expedition' led by Eric Simonsen, which had been sponsored by AFFIMER (American Foundation for International Mountaineering, Exploration and Research), China (Tibet), 1924.
