(Owens Valley) – – Kerosene lantern silhouetted against evening sky, hangs outside Cerro Gordo museum, a relict of days gone by. The former rip–roaring 1870s silver town – Cerro Gordo – is fighting to stay alive. Owner/caretaker Mike Patterson isnt well. Not sure what will happen to the privately owned ghost town. The town is located in Inyo County at an elevation of 8400 feet, in the Inyo Range, looking down on the Owens Valley near the little village of Keeler.PHOTOGRAPHED TUESDAY OCTOBER 3, 2006 (Photo by Don Kelsen/Los Angeles Times via Getty Images)
