The men pictured are probably Professor Koldewey and Mr. Buddensieg who were amongst the archaeologists working there between the years 1899 and 1917. Bell mentions meeting and spending time with both men in her diary entries of 30th March 1914 to 1st April 1914. She mentions how Koldewey has named one of his cats after her, Iraq, 31 March 1914.
