Conservative Party Conference: Day 2: William Hague and David Cameron speeches; PAN Cabinet members seated Hague continued SOT - the atmosephere we work in is set at the top and just as the mistrust, backstabbing, introversion and suspicion which poisons the Cabinet starts in No.10 so our spirit of trust, encouragement, openness and team work comes from the man who will be our PM / a sense of direction also can only come from the leader / Labour have lost their political compass / their leader is so panic stricken by each of our announcements that they snatch at ideas on inheritance tax, stamp duty and welfare reform as response to opposition but with no coherence of their own / whatever purpose their existence had it has been lost in words of one MP...loss of credibility, timorous political movements.... / words of one member of parliament - David Cameron by contrast has sure instinct and clear direction / in a nation where under Labour it has become harder for the less well off to climb any economic ladder, where the gap between educational achievements and life expectancy of rich and poor has widened under rule of Labour govt, that sure instinct has led him and our party to natural Conservative ground of family, community, opportunity and financial responsibility - across the board that is approach Britain needs now / at times of intense economic pressure, our plans to cut small businesses taxes, to help first time buyers by abolishing their stamp duty and introduce fuel duty stabiliser are exactly what hard pressed tax payers need today - in a country where over a third of 11 year olds cannot read, write or add up properly, our emphasis on good schools, good school discipline and learning to read is needed now - in a nation where too many communities feel divided from each other it is David Cameron's vision of the national citizen's service, bringing together our young people to broaden minds and stifle prejudices that our society urgently ...
