Militants of the LKP (Liyannaj Kont Pwofitasyon), a collective of unions and associations in Guadeloupe, march towards the Prefecture Maritime, where negotiations between employer representatives and state mediators are held. Strikers are demanding a ?200, or $250, monthly raise for low-paid workers who now earn about ?900 a month. A general strike against rising living costs has been in progress on the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe since Jan. 20.
