Palestinians Families Continue To Live Near Former Israeli Settlements

KHAN YOUNIS, GAZA STRIP - SEPTEMBER 21: Fatima Hnediq, 65-years-old, cries as she speaks about her son, Muhamad, 15-years-old at her house on September 21, 2005 in the Khan Younis refugee camp which is located on the edge of the former Israeli security fence that divided the Gush Katif settlements from the nearby refugee camp in the Gaza Strip. According to the family, Muhamad was killed on December 12, 2001 in his house by Israeli shooting. The Hnediq family is one of many families living in the area. Their house was allegedly often a target of the Israeli army, shooting from a nearby checkpoint. In the last four years, hundreds of houses have been damaged and destroyed due to the fighting between the Israeli army and the Palestinian militants. During the past four years, those families have been separated from their relatives living in the Mawasi Area which is located on the other side of the Israeli security fence.
