It looks as if Death is dancing with the child. »Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble. He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not«. Z Judgment Day The woodcut of Judgment Day is nearly identical to the one from Holbein's great dance of death. The same passages from the Bible are cited for both works.
