Injured giant squid in it's last moments of life floating at the surface. It most likely had escaped an attack from a sperm whale overnight. It's siphon has almost been completely detached in the attack. Pelagos Sanctuary, Ligurian Sea, Northern Italy. - Vídeo de acervo 4K

Footage was shot in the Pelagos Sanctuary area, a Marine Protected area for cetaceans, of the Ligurian Sea in northern Italy. The area also has regions with very deep channels, which are a continuation of the deep valleys along the mountainous coast, where the sperm whales hunt for giant squid.
