Stork's-bill seeds screwing into soil, timelapse - Vídeo de acervo HD

Timelapse footage of seeds of the stork's-bill plant (Erodium cicutarium) screwing themselves into soil. The seeds of this plant have a long tail, or awn, which stores energy when coiled. This energy springs the seed from its parent plant when it dries out, helping disperse it away from its parent. The awn changes shape in differing humidity levels, which turns the spiral awn and pushes the seed along the ground until it gets stuck in a small crevice. The coiling of the awn then screws the seed into the soil. The plant is native to Eurasia and north Africa, but has become naturalised in North America
