Despite all obstacles, Afghan girls do not give up doing sports

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN - NOVEMBER 8: While restrictions on women's participation in sports activities continue in Afghanistan, a group of girls in the capital Kabul socialize with the martial arts Wushu, on Tuesday (Nov. 8).A group of young female trainers have been working in a gym they rent in the west of the city, encouraging others to do sports and participate in social life.Girls in the 15-20 age group are not able to go to school that the Taliban administration ended the girls' access to education as of the sixth grade.Nadirah Darvish, who has been doing wushu for nine years and training athletes for the last three years, had participated in many national and international sports competitions so far.However, she faced many raids on their clubs and the Taliban took their permits and some other certificates.“They closed the clubs. Many of our athletes could not continue to do their sport. They were people who competed at the national level, but now they are at home and they can't come to the club and play sports due to fear," said Darvish.“I made the decision to leave. I even got an invitation from Brazil. However, I could not go because of some problems regarding my family and students. If I could go, I would go with my team. We couldn't go.
