More and more drinkers rolling out the mini-barrels for aging their spirits

Video footage taken shows Osaka-based importer Shunichi Maruyama showing off his inventory of miniature wooden barrels made for aging whiskey, shochu and other spirits into more mature flavors. Imported from Mexico and sized from 1 to 5 liters in content, the barrels are gaining popularity among home drinkers and bars alike. Also shown is a bar in Nagoya where regulars can age their preferred alcohol in personal barrels kept at the establishment. The barrels are charred on the inside and can change the color and infuse the flavor of its contents in about 90 days. Fermented sake and wines are not appropriate for barrel-aging.
