Lee Iacocca & Chrysler Bailout

Lee Iacocca (o/s) assures the U.S. House Subcommittee on Economic Stabilization that Chrysler will be profitable again through a new line of fuel-efficient cars and trucks and will provide "secure employment for these 140,000 men and women". However, given the current problems the company faces, Iacocca has no choice but to ask for assistance until the company can become profitable again. Iacocca explains the steps Chrysler has taken to this point, providing the Treasury Department and members of Congress with financial data and product plan, examining all possible alternatives. Iacocca: "In fact, I have to tell you, telling the competition what you are going to do five years out is not my idea of a smart operation. But it was absolutely necessary."
